If you’re craving more energy, emotional balance, and clarity in your day—Breath of Fire is a potent yogic technology that can completely transform your state of being. This foundational breath in Kundalini Yoga is one of the most effective ways to reset your nervous system, strengthen your deep core, and awaken your innate vitality.

What Is Breath of Fire?

Breath of Fire is a rapid, rhythmic breath through the nose with no pause between the inhale and exhale. It’s practiced in a continuous flow, creating a powerful wave of energy through the body.

When beginning, imagine a soft, steady “sniffing” motion, placing equal emphasis on the inhale and the exhale. Over time, this evolves into a dynamic and energising breath, initiated from the navel point. The face, jaw, and shoulders remain relaxed—the power comes from the diaphragm and core.

How to Practice Breath of Fire

  1. Sit tall with a straight spine, chest lifted, and chin slightly tucked.
  2. Close your eyes and gaze up toward the Third Eye point (space between the eyebrows).
  3. Begin sniffing rapidly through the nose, creating a consistent rhythmic breath. Start with 1 minute. Pause and repeat as you build up to 3 minutes.
  4. To close: Inhale deeply, suspend the breath for 10 seconds, then exhale and relax.

⚠️ Please note: Breath of Fire should not be practiced during pregnancy or during the first three days of your menstrual cycle. Swap it for Long Deep Breathing instead.

Feeling depleted, foggy, emotional, or stuck in old patterns? Breath of Fire.
Low on energy or in need of inspiration? Breath of Fire.
In a cold climate or digestively sluggish? Breath of Fire.

This practice activates your body’s detox pathways, clears stagnation, and elevates your vibration. Over time, it supports the return of joy, confidence, and radiant life force energy.

How Long Should I Practice?

Start with 1 minute. Pause. Repeat for up to 3 rounds. As you build your capacity, you’ll begin to feel the benefits within just a few minutes. Initial symptoms like light-headedness or nausea are normal as toxins are released and your body recalibrates.

Drink plenty of purified water, increase your greens, and support your system with nourishing, high-vibration foods. For a more intermediate practice try 11 minutes to fully charge you up! Final Tips

  • Keep your focus at the Third Eye to stay grounded and present.
  • Best practiced in the morning or midday or late afternoon —avoid it right before bed.
